Luke Hart is an ordinary young man until the day he learns what runs in his veins. He is the modern Echo of Spartacus, and that bloodline marks him for a world most people will never know exists.
That world is Legacy: a clandestine institution, known only to the powerful and the wealthy, that has continued the gladiator spectacle since ancient Rome. Its events are where fortunes change hands and the course of the world is quietly shaped.
Thrust into its arenas alongside the descendants of history's legendary fighters, Luke has to decide what kind of warrior, and what kind of man, he will become.
History and myth run on the same rules here. These are the ones every reader learns first.
Descendants of history's legendary warriors. They surface at the turning points of history, carrying the strength of those who came before.
A Bloodborn who carries one specific ancestor forward. Luke is the Echo of Spartacus. His rivals echo kings, conquerors, and gods' champions.
The event at the heart of Legacy. One venue, one night, fighters sent in and pulled out as fortunes rise and fall in the stands.
Eight rival factions on two continents, each with its own fighters, loyalties, and ambitions.
Legacy began in 283 AD under the Roman Emperor Numerian, who built an arena for free warriors. Four original Sects followed, and the order has outlived every empire since.
The intelligence that governs Legacy. It sees every match, every wager, and every move made in the dark.
Legacy has outlived every empire that tried to contain it.

Emperor Numerian, facing dissent inside Rome and threats outside it, founds Legacy to bind the Empire through its heroes. He builds an arena where warriors fight on the sand as free men.
The Empire falls and Legacy survives. Under Byzantium the Echoes fight for political power as well as honor, and Sect leaders gain real influence at court.
Legacy becomes a secret known to few. The Sects turn into hidden societies, guardians of ancient knowledge and, at times, kingmakers.
A new hunger for the ancient world brings Legacy back. Bloodborn are celebrated, and the Sects sponsor artists to preserve their names in art and literature.
Bloodborn serve as covert operatives through world wars and the Cold War. Today the arenas reach further than ever, and Legacy faces new questions about ethics and its place in the world.
Each Sect carries its own crest, its own creed and its own Bloodborn. Choose a crest to step inside.
Named for Marcus Aurelius, the stoic emperor and philosopher of Rome. Aurelius is one of the pioneering Sects of Legacy, a house that prizes knowledge and justice as highly as skill with a blade. Its Bloodborn are drawn from every era of history, and they do not just inherit skills. They inherit legends.
Named for Marcus Licinius Crassus, the Roman general whose name became another word for wealth and power. Leadership is a birthright, held always by a direct descendant of Crassus. The house works in the shadows, through influence, secrecy and calculated ruthlessness.
Named for Genghis Khan, first emperor of the Mongol Empire. Khan gathers those who carry the tenacity and cunning of conquest, along with the wisdom to rule what they win. Its members see the world as both a challenge and an opportunity.
Named for the hall of Odin in Asgard. Valhalla is one of the most indomitable Sects in Legacy. Death in the arena has grown rare, but every member fights knowing that a warrior’s death opens the doors of the hall.
The Disciples of Ares take their name from the Greek god of war and pray to him still. They meet every adversary head-on. Their devotion is fierce, but they know war is more than aggression: it is also the courage to face adversity and protect what matters.
Named for the mountain of the Greek gods. Olympus gathers Echoes of the great minds and warriors of Greek history and myth, and asks every member for arete: excellence of body and mind. Marble halls, olive courtyards and a brazier that never goes out.
Named for the Titan of time who ruled before the Olympians. The house is a paradox of ancient stone and turning clockwork, with an hourglass at its heart whose sand runs both ways. Philosophers, warriors, strategists and mystics train here to seize the moment that shapes history.
Named for the founder and first king of Rome. Romulus is the house of those destined to lead and conquer: statesmen, tacticians and rulers in the Roman mold. Rhetoric is trained as hard as combat, and every member swears a sacred oath of loyalty.
Every Bloodborn who enters Legacy fights under a Sect's banner. Answer eight questions and find out which of the eight would call you one of their own.

I loved the plot along with the whole concept of Legacy and its bloodborn descendants of ancient historical warriors. Jordan Costner is an author to look out for!
It was heavy on mythology with plenty of metaphorical narratives showing the reader how Legacy surpasses through time. Costner did such a great job with the storyline.
From beginning to end this book is hands down incredible. There is no way you can put it down as soon as you start reading it.
Legacy has always been known only to a few. Follow along and you’ll hear first about new books, the film, the graphic novel and what comes after.
